My best friend who I practically grew up with is really starting to get on my last nerve, and I really hate to say that about her because she's my best friend in the whole world (we're more like sisters). (Im a teen) I am OCD. But only about certain things. Some more than others. I am anxious and stress about everything. I get very hysterical. One time my mom told mr i couldnt stay out as late as i wanted to and i got on the floor and threw a tantrum and couldnt control myself. I havr irrational fears. Many of them. I have wierd prefrences. When i unload the dishwasher i have to wait a certain amount of time after the dry cycle to do it because A) i dont like when the dishes are still warm when i put them up and B) if i dont wait long enough, the glass dishes still have this wierd waxy feeling and it makes me cringe to touch them. I have wierd preferences about my food. I like broccoli. If its raw i only eat it with ranch. If its cooked ill eat it with cheese. but not shredded cheese. it has to be liquid ragu cheese. sometimes i will eat broccoli if its cooked in a dish. I am paranoid. I have mild hypochondria (i cant spell it). Im intrigued by fire. People tell me im pessimistic but i think im realistic. I could name a few more but this is getting a bit long. Maybe you could try college instead, its a lot different to school. You could maybe take up some course that can help you get a job your interested in eg. mechanics,art etc. or try for an apprenticeship if you don't want to finish your a-levels. If I were in a committed relationship and wanted to marry my male partner, I can already do that in many churches. The only thing the Church cannot do is sign a legally-binding marriage license. A PhD is 8-12 years depending on many factors, only one of which is the field. None of those fields are worth getting a PhD in. In fact, most of them wouldn't even warrant a masters degree. The only reason to get a PhD in any of them would be if you wanted to teach at the college or university level - those jobs start out paying about 40k in those fields and it's hard to get them. A PhD will leave you vastly overqualified for all other jobs.

I would suggest that you majorly boost your extracurricular activities because if your grades are not stellar, that's the next thing that universities look at. I don't know about Concordia or Bishop, but it's unlikely that you'll get into McGill with those grades, as the competition is stiff and they even turn straight-A students away. Your grade 10 and 11 marks are the most important because you'll have to submit high school grades in the middle of your grade 12 year so they won't be able to base your admission on your entire grade 12 year. i saw an article on aspergers and it said they are visual thinkers. Then i noticed im a visual thinker if theres anybody with aspergers can you tell me if this is your thought process. Ok if somebody is talkin to me explaining something i visualize what they are saying im not doing it on purpose its automatic. But when i need to take a shower my mind usually gets the urge i need to shower first from the way my body feels then i think about my shower then i hear my internal voice say "i need to shower" all within the same second. I dont have detailed visuals i cant remember exactly what things look like just like the concept i can remember faces really good though. OK, so I'm a junior in high school and I'm considered an average student, I suppose. I see a lot more potential in me but my school work doesn't necessarily reflect that. I mean, I'm doing great in some classes, but I'm doing horrible in others. Specifically, geometry and Japanese. I hate math and I just cannot grasp the Japanese language. I can't drop Japanese because it's my third year, so yeah. Anyways, back to my question. I had hopes of really doing great my junior year and had the unreasonable ambition to graduate with some types of honors. I think it looks good. I wanted to go to a good college, skipping community college, and then go to a great university. Well that all seems impossible. I just feel so depressed and pessimistic about it. Like, I seriously think I have no future. Like, I think that my parents don't expect much of me anymore. I think they even expect me to go to a low rank college or something. It sounds mean to say, but I really do think that. OK, so my friend is graduating with honors and will most likely be able to attend a good university and be able to skip college, since she has good grades. I would be happy for if it were honest, but I can't help but to feel jealous. It's not that I'm mean, it's just that, OK first off, she cheats for almost every test. I mean she even went online and got the answers for a chapter test and got on A+ on it. When she's assigned essays, she copies and pastes online. She even cheated on the PSAT. I mean do you think that's fair? To get good grades through cheating, thus becoming a member of CSF, and graduate with honors because of CSF, when it's all been a result of cheating? Mean while, here I am, doing honest work and I'm not eligible for CSF because of those two classes, and will probably not graduate with honors, and I might even have to go to community college before going to a four year. The mind is a personal area and what a person thinks is something the government cannot and does not have a right to know.

My friend is a very lively and cheerful person, bu she's so pessimistic. Pessimistic not in the way that she gets easily depressed. I'll just tell you what I think of her. In facebook, I still remember who I talked to (my friends are anime role players so basically, I have at least 10 or more friends with similar names but I remember the person whom I had a conversation with) even if the conversation was last year.. She does not. I think she's just not inclined to remember the happenings if it occurred a few weeks to a month ago. I already knew her by name even when we were not close yet in FB, I remember I always see her post that she has fever.. When we became close and even became textmates, every now and then she come down with fever, she's always in and out of the hospital. But she's very lively, like, she said to me one time that her hand bled where the needle was injected coz she moves around the hospital bed a lot because of laughing from our conversation. She texts me and says, "LOL, I'll die soon so I have to be happy." "If you're God, I'll ask you, 'Why did You give me life if I'm just mean to suffer' LOL!" She's pessimist and always tells us she's gonna die soon, but she seems okay with it. She works a lot in school, president of different clubs, school assignments, projects, extra curricular activities. She said was pulled out from her section and placed in a different class, a class of 4 students who have sickness. Accdg to her, she has post traumatic stress that's why she always has fever. One "psychotic" facebook user is verbally torturing her, and us, her friends, were in defense. She says she always cries and always apologizes to us, saying it's her fault we became involved. She easily cries, she's emotional. But as I said, when she's happy, she's really happy and lively. She is somewhat slow, although she can solve riddles (in the form of murder cases). I send her English quotes, she said she doesn't understand coz it's too deep, which I don't believe. She reads Tagalog (our language) poem, she says she doesn't understand, because it's too deep, which again I don't believe. I think she just doesn't want to think seriously. I totally get what you're saying. You aren't the only one out there who feels like this, a lot of people (including myself) feel what you feel. I don't know if I could call myself happy, but I'm not unhappy either. I'm in the middle of those two emotions, some days I'm up and some days I'm down. Everyday, however, I feel a certain dislike towards the people who I know don't feel what I feel and live their lives in a simple way I wish I could live mine. I've gotten a lot better at finding happiness though, just by simply letting go of my anger. There are always going to be people who enjoy a social status or certain fruits of life that are not offered to me. I'm coming to terms with this through the fact that I will have blessings in my life that others will yearn for as well. When you are at school and start to feel frustrated by your peers, search for something positive there (trust me, I know some are total imbeciles, but there is a grain of hope in everyone). Once we are able to see past others' flaws, we are able to see past our own, ultimately making us happier. When we can see something good in others, we see that in ourselves. And when we see it in ourselves, others see it in us too. None of this is a direct route to happiness, I'm sorry to say that no one has discovered one yet, but these are definitely baby steps to take to become a happier person. Part of all this jazz is being a teenager, we all tend to go through "I hate everyone, people suck" phases of some degree. How would I know this? I'm a 16 year-old gal who feels what you feel, and I have a bunch of girl friends and a brother who all feel this to a certain point. You aren't alone, I can tell you that much. I sort of rambled through this, but I hope I gave some inkling of help. Ps. Don't ever contemplate hurting yourself, the world is beautiful when we ignore its flaws. I assume your talking about police officers and seat belt checks and DUI stops. In the interest of public safety probably a good idea, but I think probably also unconstitutional as they have no reason to stop you or probable cause. Just because I happened by this particular road point at this particular time is not probable cause on a public road. Then they could do checkpoints in grocery stores or malls claiming to look for weapons or drugs without probable cause. Then what, door to door bed checks?

Eyesight: strange visions?

OK so, ever since I can remember me being a child, I think I can remember as far as age 7 or so. Anyway so every now and then when it is fairly bright outside when I look at something for about 4-5 seconds without blinking this odd, tunnel like vision starts appearing. It looks like these dark blobs, kinda tightly packed together start moving toward whatever it is I am looking at in a cone/tunnel kind of way. Now this vision takes about 20% of my visual range so it doesn't really get in the way or anything. It moves faster and faster towards the object in sight, until i cant take it anymore and blink or look away cause my eyes get too dry. It is never bothersome, sometimes I even intentionally stare for as long as I can to see maybe if the tunnel moves fast enough I'll get x-ray vision or something. Guess the question is: has anyone ever experienced this, is it common? Is it a sign of some terrible eye malfunction like glaucoma or something? Or do I have some super vision power and can eventually shoot lasers out my eyes ~_~

I completely understand. I am only 15, but I've felt like that my whole life. Unhappy with your appearance and life itself. It will get better, I promise. What helped me is finding something that makes you happy. For me, that was softball. I am in love with the sport and can lose myself in it. I don't have to worry about what family life is like or grades or my appearance. Hobby's help. They really really do. Also, MUSIC. I fell in love with music. Whenever I was upset or depressed, I would jam in the headphones and play scream-o (or whatever suits your tastes!) I could lose myself in the music and forget about everything else. And i refuse to talk to counselors too, but I turned to friends. They helped me so much. Just talking a little. Let them tell you it will be okay, even if you know it wont be. It helps. Good Luck. Act confident, and you'll become that way. Go somewhere where a lot of people don't know you and act the way you want to be viewed. I have been feeling for the past 6 months of what I think may be depersonalization. I am not sure that it is, but it's the closest thing that describes how I feel. completely bombed an oral presentation? I did when I was a sophomore in college. I had to give a speech in front of the class about a public figure of my choosing. I did Mother Theresa. It was supposed to be 3-5 mins long. Mine was about 1 minute. :-( It was awful. I mean, what I said was okay...but it was just ridiculously short and the visual aid was just a poster, which was nice as far as posters go, but no one else made a poster as a visual aid, they had like video clips and such. Assumption or reasonable doubt? Best Alternative for Visual Studio Express?

Right now I'm using Visual Studio Express for writing, editing, linking and compiling (C++). However, buying the application is just too much, like $1,200 at least. Right now, I'll be sticking with the Express edition, but for future reference: does anyone know where I can get an open source IDE that is similar to this one for working with C/C++? Or individual compilers, linkers, editors (etc.).

I don't think its a brain tumor. I would look in to numbing though. With numbing nothing really matters, and that bad in the world isn't really surprising. With you also don't feel many emotions, you may feel emotions on a few instances but as hole they are absent. You can get better with therapy. Most doctors would want therapy first before going on to any medicine. And you can always decline to take medicine. I hope you get better! I've put a link to article about numbing below =]

I feel so alone and isolated? help :(?

I obviously have anxiety/depression issues. I have a small group of close friends, but I still feel alone. I am in college, and as I walk through campus I see all of these unrecognizable faces and I am a small fish in a big sea. I spend a lot of my time alone because I do not have a license or a car, so I either stay home or go places by myself on the bus in my free time because I feel guilty asking my friends for rides, and I know it gets annoying cause I live out of the way. I have no one to help me get a license, and I feel isolated and forgotten. I hate making excuses for myself and being pessimistic but how can I get out of this rut?
